My name is Sherieka Thomas. I am an 18 year old, currently residing in Toronto, Ontario. I am in my First year of university, studying to become an elementary school teacher. Many people would never imagine working with children because they are seen as a “handful,” However, I always loved being around children because they lift my spirit and keep me busy. From when I was a little girl until now, I have always known that teaching was my passion. I would always use my white board to teach my stuffed animals the material I had learned in class that day.
My favorite things to do outside of school are go to the movies, go out to eat, hang out with friends and watch YouTube videos. In my opinion, hanging out with friends is something you should do frequently especially when you are stressed out about school, work, or whatever else is going on in your life. Majority of the times just being around the people you love can often help take your mind off of the things that are bothering you. It has helped me a lot and I am positive it will help you too.
I have chosen to taken this course because I believe this course will help me improve my writing skills. Writing has always been something I struggled with all my life. I have always had difficulties with finding valid information and doing proper research. My goals for this class are to not only get good grades, but also be able to learn something new.
In regards to the course project, I am excited, yet nervous. I am excited because in all my years of living I had only listened to a podcast once, and that was in grade 12. It will be a fun experience to get to make a podcast of my own. I love trying new things and i am excited to show everyone I know what I have created. I am nervous because I do not like the idea of recording my voice and listening to it, and I do not know how people will feel about my podcast.
One research tactic I believe is commonly used by undergraduate students is google. Google is the most convenient source for conducting research because it contains all types of information. For example if you were to type in “How to get rid of a pimple” on google, you would get about 20 different websites giving you hundreds of ways you can remove a pimple. Although google has all the information you need to conduct proper research, and may be seen as helpful, this tactic can also be limiting. It is limited because some of the information provided on google is not always accurate. Majority of the time people will look at websites and not really look to see if the information that is being given is accurate and updated. They usually would just see information relating to the topic they searched, and assume it is good information being given. This becomes a problem because it is likely that you are writing down false information.
Overall, I do not know what is in store for this course, however, I am ready to do my best.
